The bathroom renovation Aug/2011 Sandy7m 1of

This is the start of the big renovation to get the ninteen eightees avocado bath suite out, and the new high tech shower and up to date suite in. First stage is ripping off all the tiles. Very old fashioned look so they were never going to stay. The plasterwork on the wall above the bath was in poor condition – a lot of it came off with the tiles, but considering the age of the house (1957) and the constant exposure to steam from decades of baths, what could anyone expect. It did look like I would have a major plastering exercise but fortunatley, the major damage was on the wall I was going to have to box-in to hide the new pipes and electrics. The plaster above the window faired the same way and I was looking at bare lintel. So plastering was the first job to head me in the right direction. I am no use at that – do not have the skill, but I have enough knowledge to make sure my new plastering sticks to the wall and sets hard. Good enough to get by as it was going to be covered with tiles anyway :-)
